THE DISOBEDIENCE OF MARS

The Disobedience of Mars explores the relationship between two of the most influential figures in the history of astronomy: Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler. Written by acclaimed Mexican author Juan Villoro and directed by Álvaro Viguera, this original play offers a journey that spans from the farthest reaches of the universe to the everyday complexities of our emotions, limitations, and imperfections.

Set in the early seventeenth century yet filled with contemporary resonances, the play unfolds as a fictional encounter between two men striving to determine what they truly need to understand in order to advance their scientific discoveries. Along the way, they grapple with the limits of language, the precision of mathematics, the unpredictability of God, the contradictions of the human heart, and, above all, the fragile bond between two extraordinary minds.

The project originated at the 2017 Puerto de Ideas Festival, where it premiered at Teatro Municipal de Antofagasta. It later became part of FITAM’s program, touring several Chilean cities, including Iquique and Temuco, before enjoying a season at Teatro Finis Terrae.
