Pluriverse
Pluriverse is a digital theatre production created for the first edition of Escena Austral, the Theatre and Education Festival founded by La Santa. Developed as part of the program 3×3: Where Is the Future?, the project brought together three groups of national and local artists from southern Chile to explore this question through performance.
The work is a choral text built around the question, Where is the future? It explores the possibility of revisiting a fictional chronicle of a catastrophe, weaving together past and present to tell a story of life that extends beyond the human experience. In Pluriverse, everything has a voice: a volcano, a cat, flies, a chainsaw, a human voice, fireflies, and cultural memory. Through the image of an empty body offered as a channel, the work reflects on the forces that make life on this wounded planet both possible and impossible.
Inspired by a line from Clarice Lispector’s novel Água Viva—“I am one with everything. Besides, a person is everything.”—the production questions fixed notions of identity while embracing the possibility of a multispecies world, overflowing with eros and the power of imagination.
The production was filmed in Puerto Montt and Santiago, Chile, under remote direction during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was later presented as part of Festival Mestiza 2021, among other festivals and cultural events.
