Pérez
Pérez is a feature film based on the first play written by Elisa Zulueta. Retaining both its original title and cast from the 2009 stage production, the screenplay was adapted by Zulueta herself, while Álvaro Viguera directed the film adaptation. The project was made possible thanks to the committed support of actor and director Boris Quercia.
With Pérez, La Santa Productions was officially established.
The film tells the story of an immature and irresponsible father in his forties who reconnects with his 22-year-old daughter, Roma, whom he has seen only a handful of times throughout her life. Hoping to build a relationship with her at last, he invites her to spend a few days at his cabin in southern Chile. Over the course of those three days, however, Roma confronts him with the anger she has long carried, expressing it with honesty, sharpness, and dark humor. At the same time, she finds herself unexpectedly jealous of Marion, her father’s young girlfriend, whose existence she had never known about.
Pérez was filmed over ten days in March 2011 at a cabin in Laguna Verde with a crew of fewer than twenty people. It premiered in Chilean cinemas in October 2012, screened at both national and international film festivals, and received the Best Director award at SANFIC 2012.
The production was supported by CORFO, with sponsorship from BancoEstado, Cristal, Nestlé, and Sennheiser.
