Cabaré, the party’s over for us!
In this theatrical concert, we travel to Germany through a repertoire of eleven songs drawn from some of the most renowned composers of the German cabaret era during the Weimar Republic, including Kurt Weill, Friedrich Hollaender, and Mischa Spoliansky, as well as selections from the celebrated musical Cabaret. Performed live, these songs are brought into contemporary Chile through Spanish translations and adaptations, connected by a script that humorously guides the narrative while commenting on current social and political issues in Chile.
German cabaret emerged during the Weimar Republic of the 1920s as a cultural response to the social and economic turmoil that followed World War I. It became a space of freedom and provocation, where society could openly address the subjects that make us uncomfortable. Through humor, cabaret explored themes such as homosexuality, racism, minority rights, and politics.
In this way, cabaret embodies its historical moment while creating a space for reflection, inviting audiences to engage with contemporary realities through music, dance, and humor.
