Papelucho almost aaalmost an orphan – audio drama

Papelucho almost aaalmost an orphan – audio drama is a fiction podcast adaptation of the stage production originally premiered in 2022 by Teatro del Canto. In 2025, with the support of Fundación Gestionarte of Chileactores, the production was reimagined in this new audio format as a co-production between La Santa and Teatro del Canto.

The story follows Papelucho, an imaginative eight-year-old boy who is constantly coming up with brilliant ideas to keep himself entertained. His curiosity leads him to discover realities very different from his own and to connect with people from all walks of life.

Overwhelmed by the growing number of questions and secrets in his mind, Papelucho finds comfort—and much more than that—in keeping a diary. When he learns that his parents and older brother are leaving Chile, he suddenly becomes “almost, almost an orphan.”

The podcast was launched in collaboration with Fundación LUZ, an organization founded by Marcela Paz herself that, among other initiatives, supports the education of students with visual disabilities. The launch event featured a live presentation specially designed for visually impaired audiences.

Through this project, Fundación Gestionarte seeks to expand access to cultural content, making it possible for audiences who have historically faced barriers to reading to connect with one of the most beloved works of Chilean children’s literature.

“We have to translate many physical actions into sound, and emotions must enter a much more intimate dimension. The sense of hearing has a unique quality: it imagines, creates images, and visualizes. That is the direction in which we worked on this piece.”
