This adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale reimagines the story as a contemporary musical, enhancing the dreamlike and poetic world at its heart. Drawing inspiration from musical theatre, the production brings together a large cast of actors and dancers, a live band performing an original score, and a striking visual design to celebrate this timeless story of friendship and love.

The Snow Queen follows the adventures of Gerda, a young girl determined to rescue her best friend, Kay, after he is captured by the Snow Queen’s forces. The Queen accepts only cold, perfect hearts governed by reason. A shard of ice has become lodged in Kay’s heart, keeping him under her spell and causing love and kindness to disappear from his soul. Guided by courage and compassion, Gerda embarks on a remarkable journey to restore her friend’s heart. Along the way, she encounters magical characters—including the Flower Witch, the Crow, the Prince and Princess, the Little Robber Girl, the Reindeer, and the Finnish Woman—who help her in her search for Kay.

At the heart of the story lies a timeless question: how do we discover and understand the world without losing sight of who we truly are? Moving and fast-paced, the production presents friendship as an essential bond that gives us the strength to face adversity.

This production was a co-production between La Santa and Centro Cultural Providencia. It was presented in seven performances at Parque de las Esculturas in Providencia, each attended by approximately 700 audience members.

“The great question this moving story raises for us,” maintains Viguera, “is how we face and come to know the world without losing sight of who we truly are—and without betraying ourselves.”
