FLIES ON MARBLE
Flies on Marble is a psychological drama by acclaimed Chilean playwright Luis Alberto Heiremans. Written in 1958 and first premiered in Germany in 1961, it is considered one of his most important works.
The play takes place on the estate of a wealthy, traditional Chilean family, in an abandoned stable that once served as a chapel. Julián, the protagonist, organizes a gathering to welcome his childhood friend Enrique, whom he has not seen in more than ten years. Their reunion quickly awakens the past, driving Julián into an increasingly intense emotional state that forces him to confront his possessive mother, Amalia; his devout and deeply religious wife, Teresa; and Enrique himself, who finds himself drawn into a strange game known as “the ghost hunt.”
With remarkable insight, Heiremans explores themes of loneliness, the inability to love, the crisis of faith, existential emptiness, and the deeply subjective nature of human relationships.
The production is a co-production between La Santa and Teatro Municipal de Las Condes. Following a successful first season, it was presented at Teatro Regional del Biobío and later returned for a second season at Teatro UC.
Special thanks to the family and heirs of Luis Alberto Heiremans for granting the rights to produce this staging, and especially to Cristina Larraín Heiremans for her invaluable artistic collaboration throughout the project.
